Details of Mahale Mountains National Park

Like its northern neighbor Gombe, Mahale National Park is best known for having a wild chimpanzee population of around 800 people.

Only accessible by boat or plane, Mahale National Park is a wild frontier that offers brilliant hiking and the opportunity to climb the imposing Mount Nkungwe. The park’s dense undergrowth and mountainous setting make it a park for the physically fit, but it rewards intrepid explorers with a wealth of animal and birdlife.

Nearby Lake Tanganyika is a great place for snorkeling, swimming, and fishing as well.
